Gambling Conference in US Cancelled

An annual gambling conference in Las Vegas has been cancelled, to be rescheduled at a later date, as the gaming industry has growing concerns about the crackdown on gambling in the United States.

The conference, organized by Bodog.com, will not continue as scheduked because of the extreme nervousness of gambling executives that they will be arrested when they land on the US soil.

Bodog.com Chief Executive, Calvin Ayre, had originally planned to push through with the annual conference, but according to him those who planned to attend the conference had voiced major concerns about the US actions against one of the gambling industries major companies.

Bet On Sports Chief Executive Officer, David Carruthers, was detained by the US authorities. He was detained in Forth Worth, Texas following his arrest last Sunday.

Carruthers is facing charges of tax evasion, racketeering and illegal taking of bets. According to Carruthers lawyers, Tim Evans, bail is unlikely.

The move against BetOnSports is widely believed by the industry as a start by the United States to a wider crackdown on online gambling.

Gambling executives are cautious to travel in the US until the situation becomes clear.

The gaming conference will be held on a further date and the location will be outside the US.
